Does this word ring any bell in your heads? No, I don’t think so! Nodus Tollens has summarized one of the most common phases of an individual’s life which we call by different names like emptiness, depression, etc. but can never actually tell what we feel.

The composition of Nodus Tollens was motivated by John Koenig’s online work, The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. Nodus Tollens is a realization that your life does not make any sense. Although it may be a temporary phase but not necessarily once in a lifetime event. It may occur again and leave everlasting effects. You may find yourself trying to focus but your life doesn’t seem to be on track. You may feel, that the hard work you have done till now to reach wherever you are, is useless because you are not happy. Time seems to pass as quick as the blink of an eye but your life remains a mess. You try to connect each broken thread so as to make some sense but all you find every time are dead ends and unknown origins.

We have been following a path designed and decided by us our whole lives, but it starts to seem worthless. Either everything seems possible and important or nothing interests you. Random thoughts and memories start to pop up out of nowhere disturbing the whole sanity and thought process of our minds. And the most important part, these thoughts don’t even belong to the same category. These are just some highlights that you consider as the low points or embarrassing moments you have had.

Voicing this feeling is even more difficult because you have no idea what’s going on with you. As we continue to move forward, our life goal keeps shifting due to multiple occurrences of Nodus Tollens. Due to this we may come across the fear of time running out to accomplish life goals set by us or the fear of losing out on opportunities.

This leads to some questions that we start asking to ourselves. What do I want? What is my goal? Where this path will lead me? Am I doing justice to myself? While we think and process these questions, what we don’t realize is that we have already lost many opportunities and experiences. Most of the people tend to become solely carrier oriented and start lacking in creating social and human relations and connections. At last we feel all gates to escape this closing and start to suffocate within ourselves.

There are many ways to overcome this. You questioning your existence and purpose can teach you many things. Observing people teaches you many things. Eventually you will be alleviated to greater heights. It includes many risks but belief is what makes you overcome your lowest and help you become something you aspire. Try to become an example for yourself because in this case you are your own competition.

Endless attempts to acquire what we want leads to destruction of what we already have. Your life and death doesn’t matter but what you do within the time you spend here makes people around you either proud or ashamed of you. So evolve on your own and thrive until you live to eradicate all your problems.

Survive. Learn. Grow.
